Monitoring Time Spent Online with TimeStat

Time on the Internet is a very crucial part of our lives and business operations.

Realistically, we can’t operate effectively without it. But if we are honest with ourselves, sometimes we tend to waste a lot of time online instead of using it to develop and improve our businesses.

While you cannot simply unplug your internet connection and expect to blog and interact with your social networks in a timely manner, we could all use some accountability with how much time we spend online, what websites we frequent, and how much time is spent on each website.

TimeStats has a solution for this.

TimeStats is an extension available on the Google Chrome Web Store that helps track the time we spend online. It generates a detailed report of all the sites that you have visited in a user-friendly format.

You can view the statistics on the basis of:

  • time (sites that you have visited based on a particular time interval)
  • domains (information about all the domains or websites that you have visited). You can also see all the statistics in a form of a pie chart which makes understanding the statistics easier.

How to Use timeStats?

After you have downloaded and installed the extension from Google Chrome Web Store, the extension will start its functionality automatically. Mozilla Firefox users can use the extension "Mind The Time."

You can change how the logs are being maintained by clicking on the settings. Using this extension is very easy and allows you to see information or one day, 7 day statistics, or even all time statistics. You will begin to see where your time is most spent and possibly understand ways to improve how you use your time online.

Features of timeStats

·      Data is presented in user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing manner.
·      There are backup logs, so that you can store them for long periods for future use.
·      Set the idle time (the time when you are not doing anything on the browser window).
·      Deleting websites from log is easy (to hide from others who have access to your computer).
·      Exclude certain sites altogether that you frequent for business, social media marketing, or backlinking.

How to Use Mind the Time?

You can download his add on from Mozilla add on website. Once you have downloaded and installed the plugin that plugin starts automatically and begins gathering data to display your most frequented sites, just like TimeStats.

This add-on is similar to  Google Chrome’s timeStats and has nearly the same functionality, but displays your online time statistics in a simpler way.

There are no pie charts or detailed reports like Chrome’s extension. One noteworthy disadvantage of this add-on is that you cannot backup the logs, which was available in the Chrome’s extension.

Both of these extensions can benefit your business or nonprofit by:

  • Helping to compile data for a presentation
  • Helping you find ways to reduce play time and increase more business-oriented tasks
  • Tracking the time you spend on social media sites for your clients
  • Producing charts that show your time spent online daily, weekly, and over an extended period of time.
If you need more time to focus on your business but still recognize the importance of content marketing, we can help.
