Vision Statement How-To with Example

What is A Vision Statement? Your company vision statement briefly yet thoroughly  describes where you see yourself in the future. What do you envision for your company, for your customers, for yourself?

Reflect on your resources and those you hope to acquire -- this will aid in constructing a complete vision statement. Aim high and work tirelessly to make your vision a reality.

In preparation for expansion and growth you must consider this beforehand so that it is not clouded by any decision you are facing in the future. Whether you are an entrepreneur or a small team -- vision is similar to mission in that it is a guiding force. Mission is more of a present tense statement with descriptors while vision is futuristic. Without vision, it can be very difficult to come to decisions within your organization.

While many companies envision themselves becoming a multi million dollar operation, it is important that you maintain  focus on a vision that is relevant to your operations. Vision statements need not be elaborate statements, simply a statement of what you see for yourself and your company.


Business Plans must include vision statements, but they are also good statements to explain to new hires. Additionally, every move you make in the business world should be directly related back to your vision and mission. If you are purchasing software or acquiring a smaller company -- how does that feed into your long-term vision for the company? How will it help you accomplish your mission?

Here is an example vision statement: ChrissyBiz Solutions will be a comprehensive resource for entrepreneurs to find information to start, maintain, and grow their small businesses.

While not elaborate, this vision demonstrates what my goal is for this blog and the services I render to my clients. Business decisions not aligned with the goal of my vision will be avoided. If it does not tie into my mission or vision, I can simply pass the idea or opportunity up. These statements must be written down. 

Vision helps entrepreneurs to develop a strategy to accomplish their vision and mission. Next post will delve into business strategy and how research, education, and remaining competitive is required. Also closely tied to mission and vision, strategy is how you execute. One example is this blog -- though it is part of my mission and vision, it is also a part of my strategy. This blog is a tool or avenue by which I can accomplish some of my goals for the company.
